People make their own futures - nothing is predetermined.
Every single person is the master of his own fate, but sometimes people do not
even realize it. It is a lot easier to believe that some higher powers are dictating
our every single move, than strive to improve ourselves. If I want to change
something in my life, I just take an action and I do not wait for things to
happen on their own. I believe in free
will; and I think that the choices we make create our paths and, of course,
affect our future. Every action has its appropriate reaction; and we are morally
responsible for our words, thoughts and deeds.
Some people seem luckier than the other. They are born with
good looks, wealth, intelligence and health. There are also people who live an
extreme life, when they do not have anything to eat or not able to have a roof
above their heads. This is a really cliché thing to say, but life is not fair
sometimes; yet people should try to make the best of it. A lot of children live
in poverty, and they face multiple disadvantages; but every child is born with
the potential to have a very fulfilling and great life. They just have to stop
feeling sorry for themselves and use all the opportunities that they have. There
are some really complex things to have control over but as long as an individual
has the potential to change something about them, it should not be considered as fate.
Comment from Steve: I agree completely with Leyli in all aspects of the idea of fate vs. freewill and I believe that she summed the argument up quiet better then me. For instance, I enjoy the reference to the over used but true statement that life is not fair. I agree with this 100% and would like to say that its just the way the world works. Some people are more gifted then others sometimes in multiple ways. Its not predetermined through fate, its just a random chance where the person is born, the status of the family they are born into, how they look, the overall health of the individual. A few people seem to have it all and its not because they are more blessed then another person. I would also like to bring up another good point in that, many people find it easier to believe in a higher power controlling the fate of their lives. I believe that people need to believe in something or someone who works in mysterious ways. It gives their lives meaning, and in bad times they can look to this higher individual for guidance and feel hopeful about the future. Maybe its the positivity that one feels in themselves, not necessarily a higher being, that would determine how you complete tasks and better yourself. So I believe Leyli brought up some very good points that can be used to build up a very strong argument against the fate vs. free will debate.
ReplyDeleteYou provide a thoughtful response in which you express a strong opinion about fate and also consider the immense power of luck in one’s life. Test and expand your views with specific examples. Can you think of an example in which someone simply does not have the potential to live a fulfilling life?
ReplyDeleteYou provided a solid response to Steve’s post. Why do you think people are more prone to consider and assign responsibility to a higher power after an amazing recovery or sudden loss? Do you feel the presence of a higher power more at these times? Do people just lie to themselves that much more at these times? Keep thinking about these questions.
